iPhone notifications on Lock Screen with iOS 5.0

Your notifications don’t show on your lock screen? Here is how I fixed it on my iPhone.

With apple’s new 5.0 iOS, we were promised to enjoy over 200 new features, including the ability to see the notifications on the lock screen when we are away from the phone and just by pressing any button to “wake up” the phone.
This is very useful for me when I want to check for missed calls or new emails without having to unlock the phone from sleep mode. Simply put, no notifications = no missed calls.
However, after putting all the setting the way it should be, I couldn’t get the notifications to show. They would still show if I pulled the notifications bar on top, but this is not what I wanted. So I began to check on the support forums and I even turned to YouTube to find what I was doing wrong, but on every site I visited, all I found was frustrated users who, like me, were giving up on it and thinking that apple dropped the ball.
Finally, I was able to get them working!
The problem is… I don’t know at what moment, so below I’m going to write the steps I took with the hopes of giving you a clue on how to fix it on your iPhone.

    • The first thing I did was turn all notifications off on my iPad. I don’t think it had anything to do, but I didn’t want any “what if” on my way to success.
    • Heck, I even turned off the iPad.
    • Then I went to the notifications center and turned notifications off on almost every app, except for Mail, Twitter, Weather, Messages and Google voice. I did this just to keep errors at minimum, but I don’t think it had anything to do neither.
    • Then I made sure that all five apps had the notifications showing on “Banners”. My actual settings are: Notification Center (Obviously turned on), Alert Style: (Banners), Badge App Icon (On), Sounds (off), View in Lock Screen (on).
    • After making sure those setting are the same for all apps, I simply exited the settings and tried. But nothing happened.
    • It finally occurred to me to do a reset on the phone by turning it off. (Holding the sleep button for five seconds and then”slide to power off”.

That did it! Now I have all of my notifications working and I can play around with the settings and add more apps, etc. I believe that the problem was fixed when I changed the settings and then resetting the phone to make sure the changes take effect.
I hope it works for you. Let me know if this article helped you by commenting or by clicking on the google + icon below the title.
